The Sussex Barn Hellingly Wedding Photography | Megan & Dan

‘We were recommended Laura by a friend and couldn’t have been happier with the whole experience she provided. She was incredible from day one, just being generally approachable and friendly and we knew we wanted her to be part of our wedding day straight away. She was calming, relaxed and really helped to put us both at ease with the camera. She really went above and beyond to help us capture all the moments of the day that make such lovely memories. Laura listened to what we wanted and made the experience individual to our own preferences whilst providing invaluable advice. So many of our guests commented on how great she was…and can they take her name for the future?!! Our photos are so amazing and we honestly can’t thank you enough. You’re a credit to the photography world, Laura! Please can we do it all again!!’

Ooooh, this one…I remember this one and a flippin’ gorgeous one it was too! To be fair and it sounds sad to hear, but I remember every single one of the weddings I shoot and every one of my couples too!!!
Anyways, Megan and Daniel’s wedding day was held on what had to be THE most scorchingly hot day we had in the UK for a loooonnnngggggg time. Their day was just that little bit special for me because their nuptials were held at St Margaret’s Church in Rottingdean, the very same church I married in and the one my maternal family frequent. But before all that, Megan and her gorgeous girl team got their gorgeous on at Brighton Marina’s Malmaison with the sun shimmering across the sea and boats bobbing around in the marina itself. Malmaison has the most awesome if slightly bonkers wallpaper too! Megan was the epitome of calm and just soaked it all in. I honestly can’t recommend this approach enough – its such a special and very surreal part of your day, so it;s important to breathe it all in!
Before long, it was time for us all to hot foot it across the coast road to St Margaret’s which sits upon the village green and pond in one of the most prettiest villages in Sussex. As I said earlier, Chris & I married there too, so it really bought about a whole host of unexpected emotions for me…the nervous anticipation and excitement were all there, soooo odd!!!
Megan looked ever the summer bride in a Catherine Deane gown, delicate lace back, cap sleeves and free-falling silk tulle skirt…effortlessly elegant. Her bouquet by Florist on the Farm has to be one of my faves of 2017! As a meaningful touch, Dan’s vicar uncle married the couple in this ancient church which was so lovely.
Celebrations continued as guests boarded a red vintage Routemaster bus to take them across the Sussex Downs to The Sussex Barn where hay bales nestled in the courtyard as canapes and bubbles were served amongst mingling guests. Megan and Dan were able to decorate the whole area themselves with country flowers, lace, jam jars, rustic log slices, vintage trunks and a fine barrel of Harvey’s took pride of place on a hay bale sheltering from the afternoon sun.
A scrumptious summer dinner was served in the barn before I stole Megan and Dan for a bit of timeout together amidst a field and soft sunset. The dance floor was soon a hive of activity as the band played and even grandma’s had a bit of dance…LOVE this immensely!
