Melissa & Oliver’s Stylish Slaugham Place Wedding: A Sussex Summer Soiree
‘Laura, we don’t even know where to start, the photos are just absolutely sensational!! I was up twice in the night just having another look, I can’t get enough! Every time I look through I see a different one that I think may be a favourite, we have no idea how on earth we are going to choose ones to print! We are so grateful to have had you with us on our day. All our guests commented on how fantastic you were and we couldn’t agree more! Thank you for putting us at ease, it felt like having a friend with us. Olee said yesterday, ‘I wish Laura was always around capturing our best moments!!!’ Haha! We are so grateful you were able to photograph our wedding. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU SO much!!’

How it all started…
Hold on to your hats! So, I was lucky enough to capture Anna and Greg’s colour riotous wedding where I happened upon Melissa who was bridesmaid and then Oliver is Anna’s brother. Still with me?! Fast forward to their own wedding planning and somehow, these two knew I was the photographer for them! I couldn’t have been more excited to be there!
Melissa and Oliver’s wedding at Slaugham Place wasn’t your average ‘I do.’ It was a seamless blend of sophistication and downright fun. I began the day with Melissa at her family home complete with fluffy friends and bridesmaids in tow. I really love capturing preparations at home because its so personal to you – from the colour of the front door you pass through regularly and old photos that line the walls to family pets and maybe even your dad practicing his speech whilst keeping of the way of the bedlam…all important moments.
With a ceremony at Holy Trinity Church in Hurstpierpoint, the celebration shifted gears to the charming Slaugham Place, promising a night filled with stylish revelry and a few unexpected twists.
Slaugham Place Setting:
Nestled in the heart of Sussex, Slaugham Place provided an idyllic setting for Melissa and Oliver’s special day. The historic venue, surrounded by lush greenery, exudes a relaxed but timeless charm. The wedding party explored the enchanting ruins on the grounds, creating a unique ambiance for the subsequent festivities.
Pole Tent Marquee Extravaganza:
The celebration unfolded under the expansive pole tent marquee at Slaugham Place, adding a touch of outdoor elegance to the proceedings. The pole tent allowed the natural beauty of the surroundings to seep in, creating an intimate atmosphere as the night progressed. It was a perfect blend of summer sophistication and open-air celebration.
Dance Floor Dynamics:
The dance floor, set against the backdrop of Slaugham Place’s charming ruins, became a hotspot for dynamic moves and infectious energy. The juxtaposition of historic remnants and modern revelry added a unique character to the celebration. The elegant black-tie affair seamlessly transitioned into spontaneous bursts of laughter and a dance floor caterpillar, creating an unforgettable day.
Sunset Splendor:
As the sun dipped below the horizon, we had the opportunity to capture some breathtaking couples sunset shots – one of my most favourite times of the day. The warm hues enveloped Slaugham Place, highlighting the beauty of the ruins and the surrounding landscape. Melissa, Oliver, and their wedding party also enjoyed moments of fun respite, against the setting sun after formalities were all covered. These candid moments added an extra layer of magic to an already enchanting day.
Where it ends…or does it?!
Melissa and Oliver’s wedding at Slaugham Place was a testament to the venue’s timeless charm, family and the couple’s unique love story. Whilst their wedding day is certainly one for the history books, there’ll be more to come on this very lovely family…nudge, nudge, wink, wink!
