Katharine & Mark’s Somerset Garden Farm Wedding

‘Laura was absolutely brilliant & I would recommend her to anyone. Throughout the day she was always there and captured the most wonderful pictures. I liked how she took the classic poses and also did some poses which were different to the usual. All of the group photos captured were brilliant without taking too long to arrange everyone, etc, which suited everyone. Laura was fantastic and she made everyone feel at ease which really shows through in the pictures. Thank you again!’

‘Now, this is a story all about how
My ‘day’ got flipped-turned upside down…’
I need to start with ‘Crikey!’ and then have a big happy sigh of contentment when I recall Katharine and Mark’s Somerset wedding! It was just such an awesome day and I admit to having slight wedding day envy (our own wedding was pretty gorgeous though to be fair!).
Katharine and Mark wanted a day that reflected both of their relaxed, fun and outgoing personalities. That it most certainly did and this crowd (many of which, like Mark are rollerblading pro-skaters) know how to party!
The day began with the May sunshine that I love so much and driving through the Somerset countryside to Katharine’s childhood home, nestled on farm land and within the most gorgeous gardens. Katharine’s mum is a dab hand at creating such a idyllic country garden that has a kitchen garden to die for and even a fairy grotto that Katharine and her sister grew up with (a.k.a the tree stump)! The girls dressed in floral robes, had hair and make-up expertly whipped up and were soon supping champagne to celebrate the day before getting dressed. Just across the way through the old barn, was the marquee where I found Mark putting the last few touches and hanging bunting before heading off to get changed too.
Now, I admit to having a slight ‘crush’ on an older man on this day…there I said it! An old Leyland bus from Quantock Heritage arrived to take Katharine, her parents and bridesmaids to the Church of St Thomas Wells and little did I know that Maurice would be there. Maurice turned up for work on his trusty wedding ‘steed’ looking smart and looked like all his Christmases had come at once as gorgeous bride Kat and her bevvy of beautiful bridemaids were ready to board! For that short journey to the church and back again, Maurice kept everyone safe and full of giggles. As he bode everyone farewell, I asked Kat to do me a small favour, so she turned and gave him a peck on the cheek, as I had asked. His expression was priceless!!! (photo included, of course!)

Why did I tell you about Maurice? Because everyone matters at a wedding. Maurice just simply touched my heart. I imagined that he got himself ready each wedding morning, turned up to work bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, loved his job, this rickety old bus and all the people he got to meet along the way. I imagined Maurice lived alone. I imagined Maurice would head to the pub for a pint or two after work before heading home with a fish’n’chip dinner under his arm. All imagined, of course (in my last lines), but I hoped in any case that Maurice would leave with a big smile on his face for that one simple moment and that he could tell the story to his mates at the pub…he got a kiss from the bride! *goes off to wipe my eye* #soppyphotographer

I have digressed, but that day only got better as Spring gave us a balmy day that enabled guests to kickback and relax. Kids played in the long grass, picking buttercups and the guys rolled up their sleeves for a kick about with a football…super relaxed! Kat and Mark treated their guests to a wedding breakfast of Kings – pie’n’mash from the Pieminister …literally the best wedding meal ever!
As we rolled into the late afternoon, I managed to steal Kat & Mark away for my favourite time of the day to get them some time alone and some oh so very pretty shots too. We all jumped over the nearest farm gate into the most beautiful buttercup field and you’ll see the results below.
Mark and his boys rallied round to bring out the haybales for outdoor seating and I could see that this couple have the most wonderful family of friends who would do anything for each other…that’s pretty special. With festoon lights twinkling into the evening, the partying began with the couple’s first dance, then a band with The Voice singer Adam Barron, interspersed with a DJ playing a fine set of 90s hiphop/rap…Fresh Prince of Bel Air made an appearance and the dancefloor went off as everyone rapped along…that might just have included me too!
Kat & Mark’s day couldn’t have been more perfect and I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat!
Here’s more from this awesome day…
