Hackney Town Hall and The Peasant Clerkenwell Wedding Photography | Gemma and Alex

Those words that make you gasp a little for your couple…“We’ve had a bit of a disaster with the Town Hall – they have decided to cover the front of it with scaffolding since we booked our wedding!!” Oh poop! “I’m sure we can work something out. It’ll be fine!” I replied.

True to form it was! London-based couple Gemma and Alex had made their life in the city and were determined to get wed there too. They both fell in love with Hackney Town Hall’s art-deco architecture and visualised their wedding photos with this grand old back-drop. Sadly, it was in desperate need of renovation and soon enough the scaffolding was up complete with imagery in an attempt to make it look a bit prettier. Pah! Who needs art-deco when this wedding had such wonderful characters anyway? Not me, I’ll tell ya! Not me!

Gemma got ready at home with her sisters in such a relaxed atmosphere. Each helping the other with make-up and dresses, but without it being a big stressful to-do. It reminded me of how my grandparents would have done it and I loved that. Gemma’s dad joked and quipped with the girls about how he had hidden Gemma’s mum’s outfit in the loft to stop her panicking if it was right or not! Gemma’s gown was a lace appliqued ivory number with beautiful beading and diamante detailing. She teamed this with vintage jewellery and Rachel Simpson shoes to complete her timeless look.

Before long it was time to make tracks to Hackney Town Hall, but where was that black cab that was booked? Yep, nowhere to be seen! So we set about hailing one down and our brand-spanking-new-driver-come-knight-in-shining-armour saved the day. Naturally he was rewarded with a few kisses from 3 pretty ladies and a photographer!

Surrounded by family and friends Gemma and Alex got married within the panelled walls of the Council Chamber. What struck me most was that Alex had a wonderfully infectious smile and the love they shared between them was clear to see.

With glasses of Prosecco in hand, everybody boarded two London Routemasters and made their way to The Peasant Clerkenwell for a gastro pub reception. This pub is just gorgeous with its eclectic decor of circus memorabilia/art and natural light through large windows, making it a fab place to shoot in. Staff are friendly and the food was truly scrumptious. It’s no wonder Gemma & Alex loved it so much.

Shooting a London wedding is so much fun and I loved being able to use the urban area with this lovely couple. Not only that, but their guests were incredibly warm, affectionate people who really knew how to let their hair down once the lights dimmed and the DJ was set loose.

Summing up the day is simple – a magically pretty spring day capturing two people totally in love, relaxing, laughing and dancing the night away. Simply just a wonderfully lovely day, full of wonderfully lovely people.
