Sarah & James’ Greyhounds, Vespas & Summer Field Wedding – St Mary Magdalene West SussexLauraEl
An English summer will always be a little weather temperamental, but our British optimism will always hold fast! This greyhounds, Vespas and a summer field wedding of Sarah and James in West Sussex was by no means an exception! I first met Sarah and James after Sarah had met me at a Sussex wedding fair that I was exhibiting at. They welcomed me into their pretty home on a cold winter’s night and we talked for hours about their exciting plans over lots of tea and biscuits. We also planned a romantic country engagement shoot too!
This West Sussex couple live in a little village and most summers are spent with family and friends enjoying relaxed BBQ parties in their back garden which inevitably involves a good old game of rounders in the farmer’s field at the end of their garden. So, what better way to celebrate their wedding, than a super-sized version of the same!
Everything was held in the village itself with the preparations, church and reception all within a few minutes walk of each other. Sarah got ready at home with her daughters, sister and parents. James and the boys headed to a local B&B to kick back, relax and don their suits, as boys do.
True to our summer weather, it decided to rain throughout the morning and I crossed fingers, toes and anything else I could think of, for the sun to make it’s entrance. The rain stopped shortly before Sarah made her short walk from home to the beautiful village church of St Mary Magdalene with her bridesmaids to marry her man. Yehaaaaay!!!
The local farmer’s field saw sun for the rest of the day. It held a pretty marquee for the reception and looked out onto Arundel Castle in the far distance. The attention to detail inside and out was beautiful. Sarah and James wanted to use their surroundings as their inspiration, so kept it simple and countrified with hues of Cornish cream, soft sage green and burlap. For added cuteness and a nod to their pairing, this gorgeous pair had actually met in their teens whilst working in the world of greyhound racing, so it was only right that hints of ‘the dogs’ played a part in their day too. Of course, the adorable family pooch, Tilly, was an important member of the wedding party.
As luck would have it too, James’ dad and brother were the proud owners of two gorgeous Vespas in both cream and soft green to match the colour scheme, so these made the perfect feature with the gents making an entrance to the party and, of course, these made for great photos too.
Guests were entertained with country fete style games, a magician and band who played both acoustically and later for dance floor action.
